BACKGROUND
The Lar Lubovitch Dance Company was founded by Lar Lubovitch in 1968 and is now celebrating its 50th anniversary. The season will kick off with a preview performance on Nov 13 (2017) at Lincoln Center’s Clark Studio Theater, and it will culminate with performances from April 17-22 (2018) at the Joyce Theater. Over the years, the company has gained a reputation as one of the world’s foremost modern dance companies, having performed in virtually every state of the US and in more than 40 foreign countries. Lar Lubovitch has been cited by The New York Times as one of the best choreographers in the world and by Variety (and by many other publications) as a “national treasure.”
Based in New York City, the company has been seen in live performances by more than a million people throughout the world. On television it has been seen by millions more. In recognition of its work, the company has received many awards, as well as support from peer-review panels on the federal, state and local level (National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts, New York City Department of Cultural affairs), from discerning foundations, and, most importantly, from many generous individuals around the world.
