College & AMDCC

The company continues its commitment to support the training of professional dancers by providing and teaching repertoire and technique to college and university dance programs.

In the College Enrichment program, selected works from Lar Lubovitch’s repertoire are set on students by Lar or by one of the company’s dancers. In addition to learning the repertoire piece, students take technique classes to introduce them to movement concepts in the work and to help them develop their mastery of dance technique. They also receive coaching on performance skills and experience in the process of learning and staging dance works for professional performance.

Through the NEA’s program for colleges, "American Masterpieces: Dance -- College Component," several dances will be available to be set on college students starting in 2006. Going forward, in 2007, pending support from the National Endowment for the Arts and other funders, the company plans to reconstruct Mr. Lubovitch’s critically acclaimed “North Star (1978)” (music by Philip Glass).  Plans call for this to be one of several reconstructions in advance of a possible international tour in 2007-2008, to celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary.

Since we have already successfully set portions of “North Star” as well as other classic dances on college students in the past, we predict exceptional outcomes from the collaborations resulting from this program. Although it is too soon to say whether our application(s) for these reconstructions will be successful, we encourage interested college dance departments to contact us regarding the availability of our works, since alternative funding opportunities may become available.
